For those visiting on a 7 or 4-night package a trip to the Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye and Long Caye Wall is scheduled on Tuesdays. If weather does not permit, it will be rescheduled for Thursday, if possible. This is a full day trip with a picnic lunch at Half Moon Caye Natural Monument.
All of our diving is drift diving. Our captain pilots the boat to you upon your ascent so there is no tiring swim back to the boat. Our dive masters rinse your gear each evening and set it up for you after breakfast.
For fit and comfort, we recommend that you bring your own mask, fins, snorkel and wet suit. However, our dive shop has a selection of BCs and regulators for rent, along with mask, fins and snorkels. We also rent short wet suits in a few common sizes. Although the year-round average water temperature is 82 degrees F, when completing three dives a day, a dive skin or a thin short suit is advisable. We provide weight belts, weights and tanks, as part of your package.
Our staff of professionally trained, PADI certified, dive masters and instructors will make every effort to fulfill your diving preferences. Before your first dive, the dive masters will give a full briefing on our diving procedures with your safety foremost in mind. You will be asked to show your certification card and to fill out a liability release form. Our release form will ask if you are under directions of a physician and/or taking medication. If you are, we advise you to please check with your physician as to whether it is safe for you to scuba. As a precaution, please bring a certificate from the doctor stating that it is safe for you to dive. After the briefing, you will be asked to set up your dive equipment. This is the first and last time you will have to do this, as our dive masters will do this for you after every dive, including washing down your equipment, and preparing it for your next day of diving. Before each dive, there will be a review of the dive site with a description of maximum depth, maximum bottom time, and direction of travel. In order to complete three dives a day, we limit the down time to sixty minutes per dive - except for those diving with nitrox.
One night dive is included for those visiting on 7 & 4-night packages, conditions permitting.
Nitrox diving is FREE and permitted for those with proper certification.
Shore diving is not available at the resort, as the water around the resort is shallow.
PADI Dive Training
As a PADI (Professional Association of Dive Instructors) facility, we offer all PADI training
courses, from Open Water Certification to Divemaster. One of our most popular programs is the PADI Discover Scuba Diving, or Introductory Resort Course. This offers non-divers the truly exciting first-time experience of scuba diving in a safe and beautiful environment.
The Referral Course is favored by many guests who prefer to take the classroom portion of their dive training in their local area before coming to the resort, and then complete the in-the-water portion at the resort. This gives the advantage of leaving you more time to spend diving Belize's legendary reefs as a certified diver. The water certification portion of the course usually takes only two days. Universal Referral Forms are now accepted.
Divers who haven't been diving for a while often want to take a brief Refresher Course. One of
our resident divemasters will brief you on proper diving safety and procedures and do some
simple, shallow dives with you on a one-on-one basis to make sure you remember all of your
previous training and build your confidence.
The Open Water I Certification is the main course for becoming a diver. It typically lasts four
days and consists of about two days of classroom-style learning, covering all aspects of the
physics of diving and equipment, plus two days of hands-on learning, becoming acquainted with
the scuba gear in the water and doing simple dives.
Our Open Water II Certification provides advanced open water learning to further your diving
skills, enjoyment and safety. This is a recommended, but strictly optional course and is typically
taken after 20 or more dives, giving you time to become totally comfortable underwater on
routine dives.
Our PADI Enriched Air Diver Course is a specialty scuba diving course. Scuba diving with
enriched air nitrox gives you increased no decompression dive time. This means more time
underwater, especially on repetitive scuba dives. To qualify, you must be 15 years or older and
have a PADI Open Water certification, or qualifying certification from another organization. |
